How do I know if I have an inverted nipple?

There is what we call The Pinch Test!

Its simple and easy way to see if you MAY have an inverted or flat nipple. But remember you can still breast feed. The only thing you need to do is press your thumb and finger together, while having your nipple in between your fingers and thumb. If your nipple protrudes or comes out the everything is fine, but if not here are some ways you can prepare your breasts for breastfeeding!

Try pumping to help get your nipples to protrude for your baby before feedings.

Nipple Stimulation- If you can grasp your nipple, roll it between your thumb in index finger for 2-3 minutes before feeding. This method helps your nipple to become erect, there's also what is called reverse Pressure Softening- Use this method for 1-3 mins prior to feeding you baby! You can wear Breast Shells inside your bra to help draw your nipples before feedings. Breasts Shells are only to be worn right before feeding, it has two parts. The inner piece has a hole that fits over your nipple. The pressure from your nipple causes the nipple to protrude through the hole.

Lastly and I mean LASTLY you must consult a Lactation Consultant for proper usage of what is called a NIPPLE SHEILD!

. It can be more damaging than useful to your milk supply if not used correctly.

But ALWAYS remember, you can breastfeed! #youaretheBOM and #youdeservetheorld
